The Shoyoen Sister City Garden was a gift from Dubbo’s Sister City Minokamo in Japan.

The history and concept of the garden began in 1998. Excavation work started in March 2002 and the garden was opened on the 23rd November 2002 – the 153rd anniversary of the founding of Dubbo and 13 years after the establishment of ‘Sister City relations’ between Minokamo and Dubbo.

WELLINGTON CAVES

The Wellington Caves are located 8km south of Wellington NSW. Guided tours are available to the Cathedral Cave, Gaden Cave and the Phosphate Mine.

At the Dubbo Observatory you can view the planets, stars, and galaxies through telescopes at night including our new large 17″ telescope.

Be informed and entertained with the 75 minute program that commences with a presentation by local astronomer, Peter Starr, then venture out into the night sky and view the stars through the telescopes.

Astrophotography is also available with select camera brands. A gift shop is available where you can purchase astronomy books and gifts.

DUNDULLIMAL HOMESTEAD

Dundullimal is Australia’s oldest timber slab homestead and Dubbo’s oldest building open to the public. Built in the early 1840s Dundullimal is a finely crafted, rustic home with its interior remarkably sophisticated for its time.

The property reflects the essential elements of rural life on a large, isolated property during the nineteenth century.

Set on 4 hectares Dundullimal is surrounded by farmland but only 5 minutes from Dubbo city centre (2km past the Western Plains Zoo).
